CPR and Anaphylaxis Training

This course aims to develop participants knowledge and understanding of the causes, signs, symptoms and treatments of anaphylaxis, in accordance with the UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
Suitable for: Anyone who needs to be aware of the assessment and treatment of anaphylactic reactions within Healthcare, Dental and Early Years settings.

Aim

Learn the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to deal with an emergency involving an unresponsive casualty, a casualty that is unconscious, and person experiencing anaphylaxis. Delegates will also be able to help a person manage their allergies.

Objectives 

  • Define what anaphylaxis is
  • List possible symptoms of anaphylaxis
  • Recognise moderate and severe reactions
  • Explain how to treat anaphylaxis
  • Describe what an EpiPen is and what it does
  • Demonstrate how to use an EpiPen on someone who is experiencing anaphylaxis
  • Outline the legislation and guidelines regarding the management of anaphylaxis
  • Outline the response to adults and children who suffer from serious allergic reactions
  • Demonstrate the practical steps used to reduce further reactions
  • Discuss chain of survival, and how to initially recognise and assess someone that is experiencing cardiac arrest
  • Outline signs and symptoms of chest pain, choking and the unconscious patient
  • Discuss the recovery position and how to place the patient in the recovery position

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • Outline what anaphylaxis is and how to manage it
  • Identify the differences between a moderate reaction and a severe reaction
  • Identify key features of adrenaline-auto injectors, and how to safely use it
  • Demonstrate how to recognise anaphylaxis and methods to treat it
  • Recognise when you would need to use an adrenaline auto-injector
  • Know other medications that can be administered to treat anaphylaxis
  • Demonstrate how to manage and monitor an anaphylactic patient
