This one-day CPD certified surgical skills course is aimed at all medical students and FY1’s that are considering a career in surgery. This course is delivered by consultants and experienced surgeons, that will provide tuition and supervision throughout.

Our highly practical course is delivered using both hands-on practical workshops and demonstrations by our tutors using animal tissue, and will cover the basic surgical techniques that are common to all surgical procedures. 

 On completion of this course, delegates will understand:

• Gowning and gloving
• How to handle surgical instruments correctly
• How to create surgeon’s knots and how to drive a needle through tissue accurately
• The use and creation of interrupted suture’s, and sub-cuticular suture’s to close a wound
• How to perform a skin lesion excision, under local anaesthesia (simulated exercise)
• How to remove a sebaceous cyst, including drainage and excision (simulated exercise)
• Basic endoscopy techniques; including a practical workshop were delegates will demonstrate hand-eye coordination through various stacking and cutting exercises.
